Understand Polestar Charging: Speed, Time, Adapter & Stations
Many of our customers cite the ease of Polestar charging as the reason they enjoy Scandinavian-inspired luxury the most. That's because these all-electric cars and SUVs can recharge to full within 30 minutes at DC Fast Charging stations, or can readily be back to full overnight at Level 2 stations.1 But how do you access the maximum Polestar charging speed, and how easy is it to get back on the road? Our Polestar Marin in Corte Madera, CA, team has your interest in mind as we explore the all-electric capability of Polestar vehicles.
Charging Types
There are three levels of Polestar charging possible for your Polestar 2, Polestar 3, or Polestar 4. The first (and least efficient) option is Level 1 charging, which involves plugging your cable into a home outlet, just as you'd for a TV. This charges around three to four miles per hour, so it is recommended only for visiting your friends or topping off.1
AC Charging
The most common charging type is AC Charging (also known as Level 2 charging). This is a dedicated station capable of producing up to 11 kW of power.
DC Charging
If you need to charge quickly, DC Fast Charging stations (or Level 3 charging) are required. These can produce up to 200 kW and are designed to bring you to a comfortable charging range within 30 minutes.1
Charging With Tesla Superchargers
Live near a Tesla Supercharging station and want to use it? Well, you can! With an official NACS Polestar charging adapter, you can access the diverse Tesla Supercharging network of over 17,000 stations nationwide.

Charging Specs
Bringing your motor up to speed depends on your model. The smaller Polestar 2, for instance, charges somewhat faster than its SUV siblings. For a better estimation on charging speed, see the chart below.
Polestar 2 Charging Speed | Polestar 3 Charging Speed | Polestar 4 Charging Speed | |
Level 2 (Up to 11kW; 0-100%)1 | 7-8 hrs (Depending on battery) | 11 hrs | 11 hrs |
Level 3 (DC Fast Charging Stations; 10-80%)1 | 28 mins | 30 mins | 30 mins |
All new Polestar vehicles charge two to five miles per hour through Level 1 charging via home outlets, making all of them share charging efficiency from the slowest source.1 Keep in mind that all of these models reach their full charge overnight, making them all equally as preferable.
Charging Cost
How much will it cost to reach those impressive ranges? Generally, you can expect costs to land in the following range:
- Home Charging (Level 1, Level 2): This cost can range drastically, but the most efficient method is by installing a ChargePoint® Home Flex station. At approximately $549.00 and installation costs, you'll see your monthly refueling expenses drop to around $50 in electricity bills – typically around a fourth of the costs of a gas vehicle.
- Public Charging (Level 2, Level 3): Public chargers can range widely, with many stations not costing anything for customers or employees of a specific business. For most Level 3 chargers, you'll want to check the Polestar Charge app, which will give you a detailed map of your surroundings and the prices you can expect to use those stations.
Charging Instructions
If you're wondering how to charge a Polestar vehicle, it's simple! Given you have a standard charging cable, below are some steps to regain your overall range.
How to Charge Your Polestar EV at Home
- Either remove the charging cable from its storage space or access the cable from the Level 2 charging station you have installed at home.
- Locate the charging hatch and protective plug cover. Typically, this is on the rear-right side of the vehicle.
- Insert the cable and activate the charging process through the in-vehicle screen or via the Polestar app.

How to Charge Your Polestar EV in Public
- Find a compatible Polestar charger, using the Polestar Charge app or a preferred station map. Polestar models use CCS ports, but you can extend your preferences to include NACS (Tesla) stations with an adapter.
- Determine required payments. Use the virtual wallet in the Polestar Charge app for any charger, making recharging at Level 2 or Level 3 stations even simpler. Otherwise, most charging stations have contactless payment or credit card slots on them.
- Now that you've either located a complimentary station or paid for your charger, take the cord out, open the charging hatch in the rear-right side of the vehicle, and plug it in.
- Use the Polestar app or the central console to determine how long to charge for.
